MIGRATING FROM BOOKENDS TO ZOTERO
In early 2008 I resolved to move from Bookends (bibliographic management software for MacOS X) to Zotero (also a bibliographic management package, but designed to run as an extension to the Firefox web browser). I had a number of reasons for making the switch, the first and foremost being my intended transition from MacOS to Linux on my desktop computer. This document provides some tools to smooth the process of making that transition, collected with my observations about the same.
SCIENCE STUDIES SEARCH ENGINE
This custom search engine, implemented using Google Co-op, searches across across all sites supporting or relevant to the scholarly field of Science Studies (aka "Science & Technology Studies" or "Science, Technology & Society"). Available for public use without registration, the Science Studies Search Engine can also be added as a gadget to your Google homepage (for those with a Google Account). Currently, the search spans all those sites listed on the Web Resources and Professional Associations sections of the 4S website (modulo some correction of stale links). This is a convenient set to begin with, but will likely change, as will its advertising status (should it draw sufficient traffic). Feel free to contact me with suggestions for sites to add (or in general).
New! Check out this nifty S3E opensearch plug-in for Firefox (put together by Jørgen Tietze, doctoral candidate at the University of Aarhus in Denmark).
TROY TO ALBANY: THE HIDDEN PATH
This short document makes simple use of the Google Maps API to present a configurable map to a difficult-to-find but scenic and nicely paved bike path in the Capital District of New York, of interest to those who have wished for a reasonably safe and enjoyable route for human-powered travel (walking, cross-country skiing, rollerblading, biking) from Troy to Albany.
