Interior (3)

A shot of the interior with both tool trays (chisel tray on the right) in place. The original plan called for a chisel tray for a set of four, I already had a set of six so I widened it and narrowed the other tray (which still fits my plane and some other items).

A brass chain is used to hold the lid open. The chain is somewhat long, but when I originally tried a shorter length the lid had too much bounce when loaded with tools. Getting the chain to fall properly (along the opening next to the chisel tray) when closing the lid took a bit of experimentation.

The blocks for securing items in the lid were cut out of solid pine (the tri-square block actually split after I'd screwed it in place and had to be glued). The blocks were especially troublesome, primarily because I was using hand-held tools (e.g. a drill) to shape them rather than tools with a bit more control (e.g. a drill press). Thus, for example, the spade bits are secured reasonably well but sit at haphazard angles to each other.

Note the turnbutton for securing the saw handle.
